Very often, a whole bunch of files that are together need to share some metadata - like Location, or Credits. Currently, we need to edit those details for each items individually.

It would be cool if there was a nice way to select multiple files, and then set an attribute like Location across all selected items.

Currently, you can right-click on a folder and say "Ignore Folder" to ignore an entire folder, but there are no other bulk actions possible in the curate UI.

We need to figure out:

  • What's a good UI to select multiple items. Do we have some sort of "Selection Mode" where then a user can select multiple files / select all files inside a folder. Need to think a bit about how the UX for this works and multiple files get selected.
  • What properties do we want users to be able to edit when multiple items are selected? I imagine things like Location are obvious, but probably also things like Date?
  • What does the UX look like to select all and then Edit - am guessing the work-flow would be something like -> Select Multiple Items -> get a menu like "Edit Status, Edit Location, Edit Cinematogapher, Edit Date", etc.. you click on one, get a little modal with a selection, set the value, hit Save, and then this applies to all selected items.

This seems like a fun feature to implement, but probably takes a little bit of thinking through. I'll mull over this and see what a possible first-pass simple implementation can be.
